Indian Rice Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- 3 cups water
- 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cloves
- 2 green cardamom pods, crushed
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Heat the ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the bay leaf, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon stick. Fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
- Add the cumin seeds and fry for another few seconds until they start to sizzle.
- Add the rinsed and soaked basmati rice to the pot and fry for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly to coat the rice with the spices.
- Add the water and salt to the pot and stir well to combine.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook the rice for 15-20 minutes until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and remove the bay leaf, cloves, cardamom pods and cinnamon stick before serving.
