Onion Soup: Family Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 6 cups beef broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices of French bread, toasted

Instructions
- In a large pot, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.

- Ladle soup over the bread in each bowl, until nearly full.
- Sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese on top of the soup in each bowl.
- Broil in the oven until cheese is melted and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
