Pears poached in beer and almonds

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe pears
  • 1 bottle of light beer
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds

Instructions:

  1. Peel the pears and cut them in half. Remove the core and seeds.
  2. In a pot, combine the beer, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add the pears to the pot and reduce the heat to medium. Simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the pears are tender.
  4. Remove the pears from the pot with a slotted spoon and place them on a serving dish.
  5. Increase the heat to high and boil the poaching liquid for 5-10 minutes or until it thickens and reduces by about half.
  6. Toast the almond slices in a small skillet over medium heat until golden brown.
  7. Sprinkle the toasted almonds over the pears and drizzle the reduced poaching liquid over everything.

Serving suggestion:

Serve the pears warm as a dessert or snack. They pair well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
