Pears poached in beer and almonds
Ingredients:
- 4 ripe pears
- 1 bottle of light beer
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions:
- Peel the pears and cut them in half. Remove the core and seeds.
- In a pot, combine the beer, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil.
- Add the pears to the pot and reduce the heat to medium. Simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the pears are tender.
- Remove the pears from the pot with a slotted spoon and place them on a serving dish.
- Increase the heat to high and boil the poaching liquid for 5-10 minutes or until it thickens and reduces by about half.
- Toast the almond slices in a small skillet over medium heat until golden brown.
- Sprinkle the toasted almonds over the pears and drizzle the reduced poaching liquid over everything.
Serving suggestion:
Serve the pears warm as a dessert or snack. They pair well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
