Adult Birthday Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/4 cups whole milk

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

Cake Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  5. On low speed, gradually add in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Beat until just combined.

  2. Spread about 1 cup of the frosting on top of the cake.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting.
  4. Using a pastry bag and a piping tip, pipe the remaining frosting on top of the cake in a decorative pattern or swirls.
  5. Sprinkle the top of the cake with sprinkles, if using.
  6. Refrigerate the cake for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving.
