  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 can of anchovy fillets, drained and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
  • Parsley, chopped for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into small squares, about 2 inches each.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the anchovy fillets, parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and melted butter until well combined.
  4. Place a teaspoon of the anchovy mixture in the center of each pastry square and then fold the corners over to meet in the center to make a triangle.
  5. Use a fork to press the edges of the pastry together to seal the triangles.
  6. Brush the beaten egg over the puff pastry triangles and sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Bake the triangles for approximately 15-20 minutes until they become golden brown.
  8. Serve the anchovy puff pastry warm with a sprinkle of chopped parsley as a garnish.

Verdict:

The combination of the salty anchovy fillets, garlic and cheese in this recipe gives a punchy umami flavor. The puff pastry also adds a buttery, flaky texture that makes it perfect for an appetizer or snack.
