Apple flower pie

Apple Flower Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6-8 medium sized apples)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until the apples are coated in the dry ingredients.
  3. Unroll one of the pie crusts into a 9-inch pie dish. Add the apple mixture into the pie crust and spread it out evenly. Dot the top of the apples with cubed butter.
  4. Unroll the second pie crust and use a circle cookie cutter to cut out 8-10 circles. Use a small sharp knife to create 5-6 shallow cuts on each circle to create the apple flower petals. Arrange the flower cutouts on top of the apple mixture.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top of the apple flower cutouts.
  6. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top of the egg wash.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly. If the top of the pie browns too quickly, cover the edges with foil to prevent burning.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Verdict:

Apple flower pie is a beautiful and impressive dessert that tastes as good as it looks. The combination of tender apples, warm spices, and flaky pie crust is irresistible. This is the perfect dessert to serve at a dinner party or special occasion.
