Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 8 cups sliced, peeled apples (Granny Smith apples recommended)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add the chilled butter and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly. Gradually add ice water and mix until the dough is formed.
  2. Divide the dough into two equal parts. Flatten each part into a disk and wrap it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour before use.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. In a large bowl, add sliced apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out one of the dough disks into a thin circle. Gently transfer the rolled-out dough to a 9-inch (23cm) pie dish. Trim the edges to fit the dish.
  6. Add the apple filling to the pie dish. Cut the 2 tbsp of butter into small pieces and add them to the top of the apples.
  7. Roll out the second dough disk into a thin circle. Cut the dough into strips and make a lattice pattern over the apples. Brush the beaten egg over the lattice and sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let the pie cool on a wire rack before serving.
