Armenian Dumplings
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef or lamb
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 egg
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp. chopped parsley
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, onions, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine the ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add it into the meat mixture. Mix well once more.
- Begin to form small balls from the meat mixture, roughly the size of a walnut.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and water to create a dough.
- Roll the dough out with a rolling pin until it is fairly thin. Then, use a knife or cookie cutter to cut circles in the dough, roughly 1 to 2 inches in diameter.
- Place the meat balls in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the meat, forming a crescent shape. Press the edges together to seal the dumpling completely. Repeat until all the meatballs are used up.
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth, vinegar, garlic, and parsley to a boil.
- Add the dumplings into the boiling broth and let them cook for 20-25 minutes or until fully cooked, carefully stirring occasionally to avoid sticking.
- Serve the Armenian dumplings hot. They are reminiscent of mini-meat pies filled with juicy filling, and downright delicious.
