Baguiflette: the tartiflette-style baguette


Recipe: Baguiflette: Tartiflette-Style Baguette

Ingredients:

  • 1 baguette
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 8 ounces bacon, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 ounces Reblochon cheese, rind removed and sliced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cut off the top of the baguette.
  3. Using a spoon, scoop out the inside of the baguette to create a hollow tube. Reserve the bread that’s been removed.
  4. In a frying pan, melt the butter and add the onion and bacon. Cook on medium heat until the onion is transparent and the bacon is crisp, which should take about 10 minutes.
  5. Add the minced garlic. Cook it for another minute.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, then add the heavy cream and gently stir.
  7. Once the cream starts boiling, stir in half of the Reblochon cheese.
  8. Spread the remaining cheese evenly throughout the inside of the baguette, then pour over the bacon and cream mixture.
  9. Cut the reserved bread into small pieces and place them over the top of the filling. Place the baguette top back on.
  10. Wrap the baguette tightly in foil and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the bread is crispy and golden brown.
