Beef and Vegetable Broth Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef bones
- 1 onion
- 2 carrots
- 2 celery stalks
- 3-4 garlic cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 4-6 cups water (enough to cover the ingredients)
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place the beef bones on a baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes or until browned.
- While the beef bones are roasting, prepare the vegetables. Peel and roughly chop the onion, carrots and celery.
- Once the beef bones are done roasting, transfer them to a large pot or Dutch oven. Add the vegetables, garlic and bay leaf to the pot.
- Pour enough water over the ingredients to cover them. Bring the broth to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Let the broth simmer for 3-4 hours or until the beef is tender and the broth is flavorful.
- Season the broth with salt and pepper to taste.
- Strain the broth through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the solids.
- Let the broth cool and then skim off any fat that rises to the surface.
