Candied Apples
Ingredients
- 6 apples
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon flavoring
Instructions
- Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks or skewers in the center of each apple, making sure they are securely in place.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, stop stirring and bring the mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack stage, around 300°F to 310°F on a candy thermometer.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the red food coloring and cinnamon flavoring. Stir the mixture until it is evenly colored and flavored.
- Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, making sure it is thoroughly coated. Allow the excess candy to drip off before placing the apples on a sheet of parchment paper to cool and harden.
- Once the candy coating has hardened, place the candied apples in the refrigerator to cool completely.
- Serve the candied apples cold or at room temperature.
