Candied apples

Candied Apples

Ingredients

  • 6 apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon flavoring

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks or skewers in the center of each apple, making sure they are securely in place.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, stop stirring and bring the mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack stage, around 300°F to 310°F on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the red food coloring and cinnamon flavoring. Stir the mixture until it is evenly colored and flavored.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, making sure it is thoroughly coated. Allow the excess candy to drip off before placing the apples on a sheet of parchment paper to cool and harden.
  6. Once the candy coating has hardened, place the candied apples in the refrigerator to cool completely.
  7. Serve the candied apples cold or at room temperature.

Candied apples are a classic autumn treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth. The combination of sweet and tart flavors make them a perfect snack for the fall season.
