Candied Zest Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 large lemons
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
- Wash the lemons thoroughly and use a vegetable peeler to remove the zest in strips. Avoid taking too much of the white pith as it can be bitter.
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the lemon zest strips to the saucepan and reduce the heat to low. Allow the mixture to simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture will thicken and the zest will become translucent and coated in syrup.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and use a slotted spoon to transfer the candied zest to a sheet of wax paper. Separate the strips and allow them to cool completely.
- Store the candied zest in an airtight container at room temperature. It will keep for a few weeks.
Verdict:
Candied zest is a sweet and tangy treat that is easy to make and adds a burst of citrus flavor to any dessert. It’s perfect for decorating cakes, cookies, or even cocktails.
Serving Suggestions:
– Use candied zest to top a lemon tart or cheesecake.
