Caramel Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. sea salt flakes
Directions:
- Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Stop stirring and let the mixture cook until it turns a golden amber color, about 10 minutes. Keep a careful eye on the mixture as it can quickly turn burnt and bitter.
- Remove from the heat and carefully pour in the cream. The mixture will bubble up quite vigorously, so use caution.
- Stir in the butter until completely melted and smooth.
- Add in the vanilla extract and sea salt flakes and stir to combine.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and let cool until set, about 2 hours.
- Once the caramel has cooled and hardened, remove from the pan by lifting out the parchment paper. Cut into bite-sized pieces and serve.
