Chestnut with bacon

Chestnut with Bacon Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh chestnuts
  • 6 slices of bacon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut an X at the bottom of each chestnut with a sharp knife and spread them out on a baking sheet. Roast in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the shells are beginning to peel away from the nuts.
  3. Remove the chestnuts from the oven and let them cool until they are cool enough to handle. Peel the shells and remove the outer membrane from each chestnut.
  4. Cut the bacon strips into small pieces and cook them in a skillet until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet to a paper towel-lined plate to drain the excess grease.
  5. Add the peeled chestnuts to the skillet with the bacon grease and toss them to coat. Cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add the chopped thyme, salt, and pepper to the skillet and toss to coat.
  7. Remove the chestnuts from the skillet and serve them warm with the crispy bacon pieces as a garnish.
