Chestnut Spread
Ingredients
- 450g chestnuts
- 4 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C/400F.
- Cut a small slit in the tops of each chestnut to prevent them from exploding while roasting. Roast chestnuts in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until softened and roasted through.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Start peeling off the outer, hard shell and the thin brown skin immediately before they get cold. Use a paper towel to protect your hands from burning.
- In a food processor, pulse the chestnuts until finely chopped.
- Add honey, butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, and pulse again until smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
- Serve warm, cold, or at room temperature as a spread on toast, muffins, crackers, or bread. It can also be used as a dip for fruits or vegetables.
Verdict
This chestnut spread is creamy, nutty, and sweet. The honey and spices give it a delicious, warming flavor that pairs well with bread or crackers. It is perfect to serve as a snack or as an appetizer when entertaining.
