Chocolate and Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup finely chopped apples (about 2 small apples)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9-inch (23cm) cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  6. Stir in vanilla, apples and chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
