Custard

Custard Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla extract, and cornstarch.
  3. Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously to ensure that the eggs don’t curdle.
  4. Return the mixture back to the saucepan and cook over low heat, whisking continuously, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon (about 8-10 minutes).
  5. Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps, and transfer to a bowl.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap by pressing it directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until chilled and set.
  8. Serve cold, garnished with fresh berries or a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.

Verdict:

Custard is a classic dessert that’s rich and creamy, with a smooth texture that melts in your mouth. This recipe is simple to make, using basic ingredients that you likely already have on hand. The result is a sweet and indulgent treat that’s perfect for any occasion.

Serving Suggestions:

Custard can be eaten on its own, but it’s also a great accompaniment to other desserts such as apple pie, fruit crumbles, or bread pudding. You can also use it as a base for other dessert recipes, such as custard tarts or cream puffs. To elevate the flavor, try adding a splash of liqueur or some freshly grated nutmeg to the custard mixture before cooking.
