Duck breasts with apples

Duck Breasts with Apples Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 duck breasts (skin on)
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Score the duck skin in a crosshatch pattern and season with salt and pepper.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add apple slices. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in another skillet over medium-high heat, heat olive oil. Add duck breasts, skin side down, and cook for 3-4 minutes until skin is crispy and golden brown.
  5. Flip over duck breasts and add honey, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar to the pan. Stir to combine, then transfer the skillet with the duck to the preheated oven.
  6. Cook duck for 8-10 minutes or until desired doneness. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  7. Serve sliced duck with sautéed apples and sauce from the pan.

Verdict:

This elegant dish is perfect for serving to guests or enjoying as a special treat. The crispy skin and tender meat of the duck pair perfectly with sweet and tart apples. The honey-mustard sauce adds just the right amount of sweetness and tang. Serve with roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Serving suggestion:

Pair this dish with a full-bodied red wine such as Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon. For a lighter option, a dry Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc would also pair well. Finish off the meal with a sweet dessert such as apple tart or crème brûlée.
