Grandma Régine’s Crème Caramel Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup full-fat milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a small saucepan, cook the sugar and water over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves and turns golden brown.
  3. Pour the caramel into 4 small ramekins or custard cups. Swirl the caramel around to coat the bottoms and up the sides of the ramekins.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla extract, and salt until blended.
  5. Pour the egg mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a large mixing bowl.
  6. Divide the egg mixture evenly among the caramel-coated ramekins.
  7. Place the ramekins in a baking dish that is deep enough to hold water.
  8. Add hot water to the baking dish until the water level reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custards are set and jiggle slightly when shaken.
  10. Carefully remove the ramekins from the water bath and let cool to room temperature.
  11. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  12. To serve, run a thin knife around the edges of the ramekins and invert onto a dessert plate. Serve cold.

Verdict:

Grandma Régine’s crème caramel is the perfect dessert for any occasion. The custard is smooth and silky, with a rich caramel sauce that perfectly complements the creamy sweetness. The recipe is easy to follow and yields amazing results that will impress all your guests.
