Mashed Potato Gratin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with enough water to fully submerge. Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with a potato masher until smooth.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, milk, and butter. Heat until butter is melted and mixture is hot, but not boiling.
  4. Combine the mashed potatoes, 1 cup of the cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  5. Pour the hot cream mixture over the potato mixture and stir until well combined.
  6. Transfer the potato mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top of the potato mixture.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
