Meat pie is a classic comfort food that is loved by numerous people. It’s a savory, hearty dish that is perfect for any occasion. Here’s a simple recipe to make a delicious meat pie.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or pork
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or pork and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onion, carrot, and celery and cook until vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the meat and vegetable mixture and stir to combine.
  6. Pour in beef or chicken broth, stir and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens.
  7. Add frozen peas, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper. Stir all the ingredients until they are combined and remove the skillet from the heat.
  8. Unroll the refrigerated pie crust and place it on the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish.
  9. Spoon the meat mixture onto the crust and spread it evenly.
  10. Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the meat mixture. Trim the edges and pinch them together to seal. Cut several slits into the top crust to allow the steam to escape.
  11. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbling.
  13. Allow the meat pie to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
