Mirabelle Plum Tart Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons ice water
- 2 pounds ripe Mirabelle plums, pitted and sliced
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolk and ice water together, then add it to the flour mixture. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a disk. Roll it out to a 1/8-inch thickness and use it to line the prepared tart pan. Trim the excess dough from the edges.
- In another large mixing bowl, toss the sliced Mirabelle plums with cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
- Arrange the plum slices in the prepared tart shell, overlapping them slightly.
- Bake the tart for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes on a wire rack before serving.
Serving suggestions:
- Garnish the Mirabelle Plum Tart with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream and a dusting of cinnamon or powdered sugar.
- For an even more decadent dessert, drizzle caramel sauce over the top of the tart before serving.
