Mornay Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses, nutmeg, salt and pepper and continue stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and thick.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately.
