Pear Tarte Tatin Recipe
Ingredients
- 6-8 ripe pears, peeled, cored and halved
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sugar and cook until the mixture turns a caramel color, stirring constantly, about 10 minutes.
- Take the skillet off the heat and add the vanilla extract.
- Arrange the pear halves, cut-side down, in the caramel mixture.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet to fit over the top of the skillet. Place it over the pears and tuck the edges around the fruit.
- Use a knife to score the top of the pastry in a few places to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes.
- To serve, carefully invert the skillet onto a serving plate and remove the skillet. Cut into wedges to serve.
Verdict
This Pear Tarte Tatin is a delightful dessert that perfectly balances the sweetness of ripe pears with the caramel sauce. The buttery puff pastry adds a crisp and flaky texture that complements the soft pears. This dessert is perfect for special occasions or a fancy dinner party.
