Pistachio Flan Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted pistachios, finely ground
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns a golden brown color.
- Pour the hot caramel into a 9-inch flan pan, tilting the pan around so that the caramel coats the bottom and halfway up the sides. Set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, ground pistachios, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture into the flan pan with caramel in it.
- Place the flan pan onto a baking sheet, and then carefully pour hot water into the baking sheet until it reaches halfway up the flan pan. This is called a water bath.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
- Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool at room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert onto a serving plate. Serve cold.
Verdict and Serving Suggestions
Pistachio flan is an elegant and rich dessert that’s perfect for any special occasion. The caramel provides a lovely contrast to the creamy pistachio filling, and the water bath ensures that the flan bakes evenly and stays moist. Serve it with a dollop of whipped cream and some fresh berries for a beautiful finish.
