Quick Choux Pastry Recipe

Choux pastry is a versatile pastry dough that can be used in a variety of desserts, including cream puffs, eclairs, and profiteroles. This quick choux pastry recipe will allow you to make this pastry dough in just a few simple steps.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine water, milk, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat until the butter has melted and the mixture starts to boil.
  3. Add in the flour all at once and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a smooth ball that comes away from the sides of the pan. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool down for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Using an electric mixer, beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The mixture should be smooth and glossy.
  5. Using a pastry bag or a spoon, pipe or drop the choux pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between each pastry to allow them to expand during baking.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and has puffed up. Do not open the oven door while the pastry is baking, as this could cause it to collapse.
  7. Remove the choux pastries from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.

Serving Suggestions:

Choux pastries can be filled with a variety of sweet or savory fillings. For a sweet filling, try whipped cream, pastry cream, or fruit compote. For a savory filling, try herb-infused cream cheese, chicken or tuna salad, or pate.
