Rum Baba Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoon instant active dry yeast
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup rum
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
- Add warm milk and yeast to the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Beat eggs in a separate bowl and add to the mix.
- Stir in salt and orange zest.
- Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it forms a smooth ball.
- Cover the dough with a cloth and keep it in a warm place for an hour until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Grease a baking pan with butter.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal parts and roll each part into a ball.
- Arrange the dough balls in the baking pan and let them sit for 10 minutes.
- Bake the dough balls for 20 minutes until they are golden brown.
- While the dough balls are baking, prepare the syrup by combining rum, water, and sugar in a small saucepan and heating over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
- As soon as the dough balls are done, take them out of the oven and place them in a large bowl.
- Pour the syrup over the dough balls and let them soak for 10-15 minutes until they are completely soaked.
- Take the soaked dough balls out of the bowl and place them on a serving platter.
- Serve the rum babas warm with whipped cream and fresh fruit.
