Rum Baba Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoon instant active dry yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup rum
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
  2. Add warm milk and yeast to the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Beat eggs in a separate bowl and add to the mix.
  4. Stir in salt and orange zest.
  5. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it forms a smooth ball.
  6. Cover the dough with a cloth and keep it in a warm place for an hour until it doubles in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  8. Grease a baking pan with butter.
  9. Divide the dough into 12 equal parts and roll each part into a ball.
  10. Arrange the dough balls in the baking pan and let them sit for 10 minutes.
  11. Bake the dough balls for 20 minutes until they are golden brown.
  12. While the dough balls are baking, prepare the syrup by combining rum, water, and sugar in a small saucepan and heating over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
  13. As soon as the dough balls are done, take them out of the oven and place them in a large bowl.
  14. Pour the syrup over the dough balls and let them soak for 10-15 minutes until they are completely soaked.
  15. Take the soaked dough balls out of the bowl and place them on a serving platter.
  16. Serve the rum babas warm with whipped cream and fresh fruit.
