Rustic Fig Tart Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tbsp honey
- 10-12 fresh figs, sliced
- 2 tbsp turbinado sugar
Directions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, almond flour, and salt. Add the cold butter and cut in using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
- Add the ice water and stir until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Fold a piece of parchment paper in half, then roll out the dough on top of the parchment paper into a circle approximately 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and honey. Brush the mixture over the dough.
- Arrange the sliced figs over the dough, leaving a 1-2 inch (2.5-5 cm) border around the edges. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar over the figs.
- Optional: Fold the edges of the dough over the figs to create a rustic crust.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the figs are tender and caramelized.
- Allow the tart to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
