Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the sugar and butter until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition.
  5. Add the flour mixture in thirds, alternating with the milk and beginning and ending with flour.
  6. Add the vanilla and mix until combined.
  7. Transfer about half of the batter to another bowl. Add a few spoonfuls of cocoa powder to one bowl and mix until combined.
  8. Dollop the vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared pan, starting and ending with the vanilla batter.
  9. Use a knife to swirl the batters together a few times to create a marbled effect.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester comes out clean.
  11. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.

Verdict:

This soft marbled chocolate cake is moist, rich, and chocolatey. The marble effect adds a fun twist to a classic chocolate cake.
