Tomato Water – Treat

Ingredients:

  • 6 to 8 ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, add the chopped tomatoes and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Use a potato masher or the back of a fork to smash the tomatoes and release their juices.
  3. Let sit for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the water to separate from any solids.
  4. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl or pitcher and carefully pour the tomato mixture into the strainer.
  5. Use a spoon to gently press on the solids in the strainer to extract all the tomato water.
  6. Discard the solids and chill the tomato water until ready to serve.

Tomato water is a refreshing and light treat that is perfect for hot summer days. It can be served as a standalone drink or used as a base in cocktails. Some serving suggestions include:
