Traditional Flan Pastry Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz.) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 unbaked pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Heat the sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until it melts and becomes golden brown. Pour the melted sugar into the pie crust and swirl the crust to spread the caramel over the bottom and sides.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with a whisk. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk everything together until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour the egg mixture into the pie crust and smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Bake the flan pastry for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the filling is set. Test the flan by inserting a toothpick in the center – if it comes out clean, the flan is done.
  6. Take the flan out of the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Once it’s cool, refrigerate it for at least 2 hours.
  7. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan pastry to loosen it from the pie pan. Carefully invert the flan onto a serving plate, so the caramel sauce is on the top.
  8. Enjoy your traditional flan pastry!
