Turkey pastillas with foie gras

Turkey Pastillas with Foie Gras

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 6 oz foie gras, diced
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, cumin, cinnamon, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Add the chicken broth, tomato paste, raisins, and walnuts. Stir to combine and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Stir in the foie gras.
  5. Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F.
  6. Lay the egg roll wrappers on a flat surface. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the turkey mixture onto the center of each wrapper.
  7. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling to form a triangle. Fold the left and right corners towards the center, slightly overlapping.
  8. Roll the pastillas up tightly towards the top corner. Brush the top corner with water and press to seal.
  9. Carefully place the pastillas in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the turkey pastillas with foie gras hot out of the fryer with a side of cranberry sauce or a spicy dipping sauce. As an appetizer, serve 2-3 pastillas per person. As a main dish, serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables. The pastillas can also be reheated in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!
