Turkey Pastillas with Foie Gras
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 6 oz foie gras, diced
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned.
- Add the onion, garlic, cumin, cinnamon, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add the chicken broth, tomato paste, raisins, and walnuts. Stir to combine and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Stir in the foie gras.
- Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F.
- Lay the egg roll wrappers on a flat surface. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the turkey mixture onto the center of each wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner up over the filling to form a triangle. Fold the left and right corners towards the center, slightly overlapping.
- Roll the pastillas up tightly towards the top corner. Brush the top corner with water and press to seal.
- Carefully place the pastillas in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve the turkey pastillas with foie gras hot out of the fryer with a side of cranberry sauce or a spicy dipping sauce. As an appetizer, serve 2-3 pastillas per person. As a main dish, serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables. The pastillas can also be reheated in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!
