Walnut Apple Trifle Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 cups chopped apples
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 package vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 angel food cake, sliced into cubes
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spread the walnuts on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a saucepan, combine the chopped apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the mixture has thickened, about 10-12 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until combined. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold in whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture. Set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together vanilla pudding mix and milk, according to package instructions. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes, or until set.
- To assemble the trifle, place a layer of angel food cake cubes in the bottom of a large glass bowl. Top with a layer of the cooled apple mixture, then a layer of the whipped cream mixture, followed by a layer of the vanilla pudding. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used up, ending with the whipped cream and walnuts on top.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve chilled and enjoy.
