Chapatis with Cumin

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl add the whole wheat flour, salt, and cumin powder. Mix well
  2. Add the water into the dry ingredients and mix until it forms a dough
  3. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes or until the dough is smooth and elastic
  4. Form the dough into 6-8 dough balls
  5. Let the dough balls rest for 10 minutes. To prevent the dough balls from drying out, cover them with a damp towel or plastic wrap
  6. Preheat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Brush the surface with vegetable oil
  7. Take one of the dough balls and roll it out onto a floured surface to around ¼ inch thickness
  8. Cook the chapati for 30 seconds on one side, or until small bubbles begin to form on the surface. Flip the chapati and repeat the process on the opposite side, cooking for approximately another 30 seconds
  9. Repeat until all of the dough balls are cooked. Stack the chapatis on a plate and serve them warm.
