Christmas Tree Puff Pastry with Pesto
This is a family recipe that is perfect for the holiday season. Not only is it delicious, but it looks festive and impressive on the table. Plus, it’s easy to make!
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 tablespoons green pesto
- 1 egg, beaten
- Optional toppings: cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, olives, etc.
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the pesto evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Cut the puff pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree. You can either freehand it or use a template. Cut the branches by slicing diagonally from the center line to the edge of the pastry. Leave some space at the bottom for the trunk.
- Starting at the bottom, fold the pastry strips inwards, alternating sides to create a braided effect. Keep going until you reach the top.
- Brush the beaten egg over the pastry.
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and puffy.
- Add any toppings you like. We love using cherry tomatoes for ornaments and sliced bell peppers for a garland.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Verdict:
This Christmas tree puff pastry with pesto is a showstopper. It’s not only delicious, but it’s also festive and a great centerpiece for any holiday get-together. The pesto adds a delicious savory flavor, and the toppings are customizable to your liking. It’s also easy to make, so you can impress your guests without spending too much time in the kitchen.
