Ciabatta Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g bread flour
  • 10g salt
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 400ml warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
  2. Make a well in the center and pour in the warm water and olive oil.
  3. Use a fork to mix the ingredients together until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 10-12 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel, and let it rise for 1-2 hours in a warm place, until it doubles in size.
  6. Once the dough is ready, preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking stone or a lightly oiled baking sheet in the oven to heat up.
  7. Punch down the dough to release the air and transfer it to a floured surface.
  8. Gently stretch the dough out into an oblong shape, about 10-12 inches long and 3-4 inches wide. Fold the dough in half lengthwise, and then in half again, pressing the edges together to seal the folds.
  9. Dust the top of the dough with flour and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
  10. Carefully transfer the dough onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and crisp, and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Transfer the ciabatta bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
