Custard Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 4 equal squares. Place the squares on the prepared baking tray and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream and granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Add the egg yolks, vanilla extract and cornstarch to the mixture. Whisk until well combined.
  5. Cook the mixture over low heat and keep whisking constantly until it starts to thicken, about 10 minutes. Add the butter and whisk until melted.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the custard cool for a few minutes.
  7. Divide the custard evenly into each puff pastry square, leaving about 1/2 inch border on each side.
  8. Bake in the oven for 15-18 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Remove the pastry from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes on the baking tray.
  10. Dust the pastry with powdered sugar and serve warm.
