Grapefruit Peel Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 grapefruits
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions:
- Wash the grapefruits and remove the skin from the fruit.
- Cut the skin into smaller pieces and remove any excess pith (the white part).
- Place the grapefruit peel in a pot and add enough water to cover the peel.
- Bring to a boil. Once boiling, drain the water and repeat the process two more times. This is to remove any bitterness from the peel.
- In another saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar dissolves completely and the liquid thickens slightly. This will be your simple syrup.
- Add the grapefruit peel to the simple syrup and simmer for about an hour or until the peel has softened and the syrup has thickened and become sticky.
- Remove the grapefruit peel from the syrup and let cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, serve and enjoy!
Verdict:
This grapefruit peel recipe results in a sweet and citrusy treat that is perfect for snacking on its own or adding to baked goods like cakes and cookies.
Serving Suggestions:
For an extra zing of flavor, sprinkle some grated lime zest on top of the grapefruit peel before serving. These also make great edible decorations for cupcakes and other desserts.
