Grapefruit peel

Grapefruit Peel Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 grapefruits
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Wash the grapefruits and remove the skin from the fruit.
  2. Cut the skin into smaller pieces and remove any excess pith (the white part).
  3. Place the grapefruit peel in a pot and add enough water to cover the peel.
  4. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, drain the water and repeat the process two more times. This is to remove any bitterness from the peel.
  5. In another saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar dissolves completely and the liquid thickens slightly. This will be your simple syrup.
  6. Add the grapefruit peel to the simple syrup and simmer for about an hour or until the peel has softened and the syrup has thickened and become sticky.
  7. Remove the grapefruit peel from the syrup and let cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, serve and enjoy!

Verdict:

This grapefruit peel recipe results in a sweet and citrusy treat that is perfect for snacking on its own or adding to baked goods like cakes and cookies.

Serving Suggestions:

For an extra zing of flavor, sprinkle some grated lime zest on top of the grapefruit peel before serving. These also make great edible decorations for cupcakes and other desserts.
