Green Tomato Jam Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1.5 pounds green tomatoes, chopped
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine the chopped green tomatoes, sugar, lemon juice, and zest.
- Add the cinnamon stick and ground cloves, and stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce the heat to medium-low.
- Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the jam has thickened and the tomatoes have broken down. This will take about 45 minutes to an hour.
- Once the jam has thickened, remove the cinnamon stick and use an immersion blender (or transfer the mixture to a regular blender) to blend until smooth.
- Pour the jam into clean jars and let cool to room temperature. Once cooled, seal with lids and store in the refrigerator.
Verdict:
This sweet and tangy green tomato jam is a great way to use up any unripe tomatoes that you might have in your garden. The cinnamon and cloves add a warm spice flavor that compliments the tartness of the tomatoes perfectly.
Serving Suggestions:
Spread this jam on toast or biscuits for a unique breakfast treat. You can also use it as a glaze for roasted meats or as a condiment for grilled sandwiches.
