Green tomato jam

Green Tomato Jam Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds green tomatoes, chopped
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the chopped green tomatoes, sugar, lemon juice, and zest.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick and ground cloves, and stir to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce the heat to medium-low.
  4. Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the jam has thickened and the tomatoes have broken down. This will take about 45 minutes to an hour.
  5. Once the jam has thickened, remove the cinnamon stick and use an immersion blender (or transfer the mixture to a regular blender) to blend until smooth.
  6. Pour the jam into clean jars and let cool to room temperature. Once cooled, seal with lids and store in the refrigerator.

Verdict:

This sweet and tangy green tomato jam is a great way to use up any unripe tomatoes that you might have in your garden. The cinnamon and cloves add a warm spice flavor that compliments the tartness of the tomatoes perfectly.

Serving Suggestions:

Spread this jam on toast or biscuits for a unique breakfast treat. You can also use it as a glaze for roasted meats or as a condiment for grilled sandwiches.
