Lime skin – Treat

Lime Skin-Treat Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 limes
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Wash the limes thoroughly with cold water and pat them dry with a towel.
  2. Using a vegetable peeler, remove the green outer layer or zest of the limes in thin strips. Avoid cutting the white pith as it is quite bitter and can ruin the taste of the treat.
  3. Put the lime zest strips in a saucepan and add enough water to cover them completely. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the water and repeat step 3 twice more, each time using fresh water to boil the lime zest strips.
  5. Return the lime zest strips to the saucepan and add sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  6. Reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for about 20-25 minutes or until the lime skin becomes translucent and soft.
  7. Drain the excess liquid and let the lime skin cool. You can sprinkle some extra sugar over the treat at this point if you want it to be sweeter.
  8. Serve the lime skin-treats at room temperature or cold. You can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

This Lime Skin-Treat recipe is a wonderful way to use up leftover lime zest and turn it into a delicious snack. The combination of sweet and tangy flavors makes it addictive and refreshing at the same time. It’s also low in calories and fat, so it’s a guilt-free indulgence that kids and adults alike will love.
