Marrowbone Meat Broth

Marrowbone Meat Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of marrow bones
  • 2 pounds of beef or chicken meat
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 10 cups of water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven at 375°F/190°C.
  2. Place the marrow bones on a baking sheet and roast them for 30-40 minutes. This step will add extra flavor to your broth.
  3. Meanwhile, heat up some oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onions, garlic, carrots, and celery. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are soft.
  4. Add the tomato paste, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and bay leaf. Mix everything well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the roasted marrow bones, beef or chicken meat, and water to the pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Bring the broth to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 4-6 hours. The longer you let it simmer, the richer the flavor will be.
  7. Once the broth has simmered enough, turn off the heat and let it cool down for a bit.
  8. Strain the broth over a bowl using a fine-mesh sieve. Discard the bones, meat, and vegetables left over.
  9. You can store the broth in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze it for later use.
