Orange in the Air – Regal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 large oranges
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 piece of star anise
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • 1/2 lemon, sliced
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cut the tops off the oranges and set aside. Using a spoon, carefully scoop out the flesh of the oranges and reserve for another use. Place the empty orange halves in a baking dish.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, cinnamon stick, star anise, vanilla bean and lemon slices. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture is slightly thickened.
  5. Pour the syrup over the orange halves, filling them about halfway. Place the reserved orange tops on the filled halves.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the oranges are soft and caramelized on the outside.
  7. Serve hot with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional).
