Sandwich Bread in the Oven Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 egg white (lightly beaten)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Stir in the warm water and olive oil.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into a rectangular loaf.
  6. Place the loaf on a greased baking sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F/190°C.
  8. Brush the egg white over the top of the loaf.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
