Shrimp Sticks Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sake or dry white wine
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Cut each shrimp lengthwise in half and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolk, cornstarch, soy sauce, sake or wine, ginger, garlic, salt and black pepper.
- Add the shrimp to the bowl and stir to coat well.
- Cover with plastic wrap and marinate for 30 minutes in the fridge.
- Place the panko in a shallow dish. Remove shrimp from marinade, one at a time and roll in the panko, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat 1 inch of oil to 350 degrees F in a large, deep pot over medium-high heat.
- Working in batches, fry shrimp sticks until golden brown on all sides, about 2 minutes per side.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat with remaining shrimp sticks.
Serving Suggestions:
Shrimp sticks are best served hot with a dipping sauce of your choice. Try sweet chili sauce, tartar sauce or a spicy mayo for some extra flavor. Serve alongside a fresh green salad and enjoy!
Verdict:
These shrimp sticks are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The marinade gives the shrimp a nice kick of flavor and the panko breadcrumb coating adds a satisfying crunch. Perfect as an appetizer or as part of a main meal.
