Traditional Bolognese Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stick, finely chopped
- 500g beef mince
- 1 can chopped tomatoes (400g)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 500ml beef stock
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes.
- Add the carrot and celery and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add the beef mince and cook until browned, breaking up any large pieces with a wooden spoon.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper and stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook gently for at least an hour, or until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
