Traditional Fire Pot Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef
  • 1 lb thinly sliced lamb
  • 1 lb thinly sliced chicken
  • 1 lb seafood (such as shrimp, squid, or mussels)
  • 1 lb vegetables (such as Napa cabbage, celery, carrots, mushrooms, and spinach)
  • 1 package of glass or rice noodles
  • 8 cups of broth (chicken or beef)
  • 1 tbsp of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp of ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp of Sichuan peppercorns
  • 2 tbsp of soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp of hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp of sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the ingredients by slicing the meat, seafood, and vegetables into thin pieces.
  2. Soak the noodles in warm water for about 15 minutes and set aside.
  3. In a large pot or a hot pot, heat the vegetable oil until hot, add garlic, and ginger and fry until fragrant.
  4. Add the broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, Sichuan peppercorns, and sesame oil. Bring to a boil.
  5. Arrange the prepared meat, seafood, and vegetables on a large plate or tray and place next to the hot pot on the table.
  6. Add a small amount of each ingredient in the hot pot according to your preference and cook until tender.
  7. Using chopsticks or a ladle, add the cooked ingredients from the hot pot to a bowl and add some of the broth. Remove with chopsticks or spoon.
  8. Enjoy with the cooked noodles and other dipping condiments (e.g. sauces, herbs).
