Vanilla Flan Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown, stirring constantly to avoid burning. Pour into a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla extract, eggs, and egg yolks until smooth.
  4. Pour the mixture over the caramelized sugar in the baking dish.
  5. Place the dish inside a larger baking pan, and fill the larger pan with enough hot water to reach halfway up the sides of the smaller dish.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the flan is set but still jiggles slightly in the center.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool. Then chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
  8. Loosen the edges of the flan with a knife, and invert onto a serving platter. Serve chilled.
