Mornay Egg Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 F.
- Butter small baking dish or ramekin.
- Cook egg in boiling water for 5-7 minutes for a soft boiled egg and 8-10 for a hard boiled egg, then gently remove from water, crack shell and peel.
- In saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and cook, whisking constantly, for 1-2 minutes to make a roux. Slowly pour in milk, whisking continually until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in shredded Gruyere cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Place cooked egg into the buttered baking dish. Pour Mornay sauce over egg and bake in preheated oven until bubbly and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from oven and serve immediately.
