Mussels with Mustard Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1kg mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1 red onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup white wine
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- In a large pot over medium-high heat, melt the butter and sauté the onion and garlic until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the mussels and stir until they are coated with the onion and garlic mixture.
- Add the white wine, dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot and allow the mussels to cook for 5-7 minutes until they open up.
- Remove the mussels from the pot with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate. Discard any unopened mussels.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the cream to the pot. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Pour the sauce over the mussels, sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Verdict:
This indulgent dish is the perfect combination of savory and sweet. The dijon mustard adds a tangy kick to the creamy sauce, while the mussels provide a briny freshness.
Serving Suggestions:
Pair with some crusty garlic bread or serve over a bed of linguine for a more filling meal.
