- 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 sheets nori
- 8 ounces fresh salmon, cut into thin strips
- Soy sauce, for dipping
- Wasabi, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the sushi rice with cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and add it to a medium-size pot with 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Cook the rice for 15 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the rice cool for 10 minutes.
- In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar and salt have dissolved.
- Add the vinegar mixture to the cooked rice and stir well to combine.
- Lay a sheet of nori on top of a sushi mat or a piece of plastic wrap. Wet your hands in water and grab a handful of rice, then press the rice onto the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge.
- Place several strips of salmon in the middle of the rice, then use the mat or the plastic wrap to roll the sushi tightly into a cylindrical shape.
- Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets, rice, and salmon.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the sushi into 1-inch thick slices.
- Serve the salmon maki with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
